New Create Entries beta, round two

The next code push will update the new Create Entries page in beta with a number of fixes for previously-reported bugs and enhancements. To make it easier to keep track, we're therefore opening up a new bug-reporting post (to avoid confusing things with bugs reported in the previous post).

When reporting bugs, please include:

* The browser name, browser version number, and operating system you're using
* The steps you took to reproduce the problem
* Whether or not you've tested the same steps in another browser (and if so, which)
* Whether you get the same result every time you try the same steps, or if it only happens sometimes

If we can't reproduce the problem under the same browser and operating system, we may also ask you for a list of any browser extensions you have installed.

Things that are still not yet implemented:

* the "don't autoformat" button
* the rich text editor
* editing existing entries (it will display the old form)
* draft posts of any type, including autosaving of entries

There are also still some issues with IE, especially in "privacy mode". Anything that requires Javascript is currently not working in IE in privacy mode, and we're trying to figure out if there's something we can do to fix that or if the settings of the browser override anything we can do.

I'm using Maxthon 2.5.18, Windows 7.

When I try to use the 'Post' button under the text box, I get given a 404 message. I tried to post three times, and kept getting the same thing, but the post went through when I clicked on the bottom 'Post' button.

Though, this is most probably Maxthon being difficult again, because now that I'm comparing it to Firefox, Maxthon doesn't have the 'highlight text box upon hover' either. *sigh* The 'Post' button under the text box works in Firefox and Internet Explorer (though IE doesn't have 'highlight text box upon hover').

Hm, that is pretty weird! I just tried with IE, and they usually behave the same, but I didn't have the same problem...

When it gives you the 404, what link is in the address bar? It should be http://www.dreamwidth.org/entry/new when you first load the page; I'm curious to see how it differs after you try posting the entry.

Heh - good thing I was about to post something anyway, so I can test it! XDD I used the button directly under the text box, and got the 404 again. The link in the address bar is http://www.dreamwidth.org/entry/.

Though when I was just trying to post this particular post, the bottom 'Post' button gave me a 404 too. I had to try the Post button under the text box for it to finally go through. The bottom Post button also gave me the http://www.dreamwidth.org/entry/ url in the address box.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Oh how about try this: hit the same post button twice next time you have to post something, instead of once each button (also is it happening in IE as well, or is it just in Maxthon?)

IE seemed to work fine when I was just doing 'post post' (I did it twice on both buttons and they all went through) but when I tried for two paragraphs it gave me the 404 error. I hit the same post button again and then it went through.

Aaaand tried just doing 'post post' with Maxthon, and then went through fine too. Huh.

Hmm, that is *weird*! I need to think about this. Let me know, though, if you have any more info?

I'm not sure if this is the same issue, but I've been getting the same 404 and same address today, so I'm entering this comment here in case it is related. This only happens for me if I "Preview" the post before I click the "Post entry" button, in both cases referring to the buttons directly below the text box.

IE 9.0.7 64-bit in Win7

I haven't tried any other browsers or operating systems. This is consistent for me, no matter how much text is in the post. (I just did a test post with just "blah blah" as the title and text.) If I put exactly the same settings in and try to post without first going through preview, it posts just fine.

...Huh. I just tried that out and yeah, if I previewed the post first, it didn't go through, but if I didn't, it posted. I pretty much preview every single one of my posts so I wouldn't have caught that.

Thanks! :D

Hey--have you run into this lately? I'm trying to do a bug run up and this is the kind of thing I'm not going to be able to replicate on my own, lacking a Windows machine at the moment. Anyway, if you could check and get back to me on it, that would be great!

Yeah, I'm still getting the 404 message if I leave the post for long enough.

The box highlight on hover works now, but the 'Subject' and 'Your entry here...' text doesn't show up.
