New Create Entries beta, round two
The next code push will update the new Create Entries page in beta with a number of fixes for previously-reported bugs and enhancements. To make it easier to keep track, we're therefore opening up a new bug-reporting post (to avoid confusing things with bugs reported in the previous post).
When reporting bugs, please include:
* The browser name, browser version number, and operating system you're using
* The steps you took to reproduce the problem
* Whether or not you've tested the same steps in another browser (and if so, which)
* Whether you get the same result every time you try the same steps, or if it only happens sometimes
If we can't reproduce the problem under the same browser and operating system, we may also ask you for a list of any browser extensions you have installed.
Things that are still not yet implemented:
* the "don't autoformat" button
* the rich text editor
* editing existing entries (it will display the old form)
* draft posts of any type, including autosaving of entries
There are also still some issues with IE, especially in "privacy mode". Anything that requires Javascript is currently not working in IE in privacy mode, and we're trying to figure out if there's something we can do to fix that or if the settings of the browser override anything we can do.

1 - When I hit spell-check, the picture of my selected icon disappears from the Create Entries page. It's still selected in the drop-down, but the space where it should display is blank. If I select a different icon, it displays okay; if I hit spell-check again, the picture disappears again. The icon seems to post okay when I post the entry.
2 - If I already have tags in the tag field, and I use the tag browse to select another one, the previous tags disappear. The previous tags show as checked in the browse pop-up, but when I hit Save, only the newly-selected tag(s) appear in the tag field. It doesn't seem to matter whether the previous tags were entered via typing, drop-down, or browse. (Unlike with the icon bug, the "disappeared" tags do not post with the entry.)
3 - When I type in a tag, the drop-down list appears and narrows the selections as I continue typing. Fine so far. But if I hit Enter when I finish typing the tag, the drop-down list (with its one remaining, bolded option) doesn't disappear. It just sits there, sometimes hanging off the bottom of the tag field, sometimes partly overlaying it. It doesn't go away until I either start typing another tag (and get a fresh drop-down), or I click somewhere outside the tags area. If I click outside the tag area, the drop-down disappears but the typed text remains in the tag field (along with the little selected tag "box"). If I type a comma instead of Enter when I'm done typing the tag, however, everything works as it should.
Other non-bug comments:
I love the customizability, both what displays and where. Really, this is a brilliant idea.
I'd like to be able to put the date and icon selection at the top of the page instead of the bottom; those are "starting" things to my brain, not "ending" things.
For the tags drop-down list, it would be nice to have a scroll bar on the list itself, rather than having to scroll down the whole screen if the list is long.
I'm not wild about the little clickable buttons/boxes/whatchamacallums for the selected tags. I'd prefer an option to just have a plain text, comma-separated list.
This one's dumb, and I know it's dumb, but: I want my Subject field labeled. I know perfectly well what that field is for, but without something that says Subject: in front of it, my eye wants to skip right over it. I foresee many untitled entries in my future....

You can sort of do that already, if you go into Settings and select 'Column alongside entry text', which means you can put panels beside the text box, unless you mean having the panels above the entry box?
"I want my Subject field labeled. I know perfectly well what that field is for, but without something that says Subject: in front of it, my eye wants to skip right over it."
This is there, but it depends on what web browser you're using at the moment ('Subject' and 'Your entry text...' appear on Firefox, but not in Maxthon or Internet Explorer, at least on my computer).
Hope that's a little helpful!

I was going for above the entry box, but it's an option to consider.

Not in Opera either, apparently. But in that case, it's a bug, not just me being obtuse. So, yay!
Thanks!

I'd like to have the option to do that too. I hadn't actually noticed yet that you couldn't, because I have the icon at the top of my right-side column.
Hmmmmmm; could to do left-hand columns of modules too?

I feel a need to argue against this; I hate having a short scrolly-thing to try to find something in a long list. I was so happy when I saw how long the dropdown was!

Well, then, obviously it needs to be a user-selectable setting! ;-)
I don't love the super-short scrolly-things either, but my full tags list sails on down past the bottom of the screen and keeps going to the horizon. Some kind of middle ground would be ideal for my purposes; maybe the drop-down could "drop up", adjusted to the size of the browser window?

Yes; the list needs to stop at the edge of the window and scroll if longer than that, and if there's more space above than below, in a perfect world it will go up. *nod*

Agreed! Also love that the tags starting with what you type are still listed first -- it's the best of both worlds.
I just kept typing until I saw the tag I wanted.
On good days, so do I; but on days when I am low on brain and can't remember what tags I want, I just type a space and the whole tag list appears. (I like the drop-down list better than the browse pop-up, even with the scrolling issue.)

Yes, that too! Love. Love. LOVE! :)

Apparently my brain is quite insistent that "who am I" is a question that needs to be addressed before "what am I posting about" (and reading left-to-right, the right-hand column still feels like "after" the entry to some extent).
