#314: openID users replying to comments from email

The links in comment notification emails to openID users are fine, but the if html emails are enabled and the user attempts to reply through the form inside, an error message of "You can't post as a shared or community account. Shared accounts represent groups of people, not individual people," is received. Then if the user attempts to comment from that page, the comment will be at the top level instead of threaded.

ETA: this specific issue is fixed, although there are some other OpenID commenting issues.

Can you get somebody to check if this happens on other LJ clones, too, or if it's just DW? I'm curious as to whether it's an us-bug or a codebase-bug.

Am in the process of testing with H2 right now. On LJ, same error with "can't post as a community" but when I go to post from there it does thread properly.

Aight, hit up Inksome and Insanejournal, both of which are exactly the same as DW. Maybe LJ fixed the threading thing in some non-free section of code.

I actually suspect it might have come from some recent change that hasn't been merged into our branch. We're the most up-to-date with LJ code; Inksome is about a year and a half behind (I think) and IIRC InsaneJournal is about two years back.

...which is to say, it'd have to be a change in how LJ handles this shit past early January, which was the last time we merged our code to LJ's.

I'll check LJ's changelog and see what's up.

Hi,

Replying to posts from within the HTML form doesn't give me that error. Instead I get this: http://i39.tinypic.com/2dbsz8z.gif

At first I thought it was limited to only mskala, but I've been commenting on other people's journals and getting comment notifications in my inbox... and getting the exact same screen every time.

If I click on "comment using OpenID identity" that doesn't thread the comment, it posts a new comment on the entry, which is annoying and goes against the point of comment threading...

Yes, I should have marked that this was fixed, because it is. The bug you're getting is specifically related to OpenID users being regarded as 'anonymous' in certain instances of code. We are planning to update all of that, so that we specifically create a new class of user for OpenID so that they can be allowed to comment when anon commenting is turned off. If you comment in journals where anon commenting is allowed, you shouldn't have any problems.

Ah--that would explain why it was happening. A lot of my friends (the ones who've migrated) have turned off anon commenting. I look forward to when this is fixed! Thanks. ^_^
