Editing with the new Create Entries page

We pushed out editing of your own entries using the new page with this code push. Please bang on it and let us know if you run into any issues specifically when editing an existing entry.

Known issues:

  • Admin editing of community entries still goes to the old view (this is deliberate, because we have something else lined up for admins)
  • Title still says "create entries".

We keep having a problem where whenever we go to edit older posts, it wipes all but the very first tag (for us, that's usually an authorship tag). We've been dealing with it by copying the tags to a note before going in to edit, and then manually putting them all back in, but it's definitely a bug that we hope gets fixed soon.

Eeeep! I had been dealing with the absence of a "Turn off auto-formatting" option by editing the post once I'd made it, but now I can't even do that. (Well, I turned off beta, edited the post, and turned on beta again. Not ideal.)

Any ETA on that feature?

1. When I go to "Edit entries" on the side tab it takes me to the old edit page.

2. I have my entries default to Access-Only; when I use the new edit page I can't change it to 'Public.' It still has a minimum security of Access-Only. At first I thought it had already been fixed and then I remembered the two different edit pages.

This isn't necessarily a bug, but it is a darn annoying behavior: when I tab out of the edit pane and hit enter, like I'm used to doing from the old edit page, it takes me to a preview of the post instead of posting it. I'm none too fond of this behavior. I could get used to it, but I'd like for it to just...post, instead of having to remember to tab twice more and always (because I forget) having to close another window.

A very minor thing and I don't know if I should report it here or on the s2 post, but I'm putting it here for now:

I just noticed that the edit entry page doesn't have a page title - neither in the old site scheme coding or the new s2 one

If it's not too much trouble, could this be fixed/adjusted as well:

Could either the Display Date default be "Use the time when entry is posted" or, if that's not possible/popular, could the user's last choice be used next time as well? I find it really annoying to always have to change the tick-box here (uh well, first world problems and all that ^^), and it seems to be a rather simple thing to fix, as far as I can tell.

I like the drag and drop functionality to rearrange the layout. However, when I drop the panels, they automatically collapse. I'd prefer it if they persisted the open state I had them in so I didn't have to continually manually reopen them. (They stay open once I save the settings, just while I'm playing around with it, they keep collapsing.) Is that working as designed, or a bug?

The behavior of the +/- button doesn't seem to be quite consistent - sometimes when the panels automatically collapsed as described above the "-" would remain, although when clicked, it toggled the open state as you would expect for one in a collapsed state, even though the button itself was displaying incorrectly. I can't seem to repeat this now but I know I saw it being in the opposite state to what I would expect for the state of the panel.

I don't know if this is just me or if I missed something or if I just haven't looked hard enough, but—

Does the new create/edit entries page have the ability to cross-post to other sites (yet)? Because it isn't doing that for me, and doesn't even seem to have the option to, and I don't know if that's the beta's fault or my fault or what. Sorry and thanks!

Is there any chance on getting a changeable width on the tag box module? Basically, I'd love to have the option to run the tags box beneath the entire width of the main input area like it used to be, and keep the other modules on the side. It looks so squashed and awkward when it's the only box there, haha.

Not exactly sure how to explain this.

I'd edited an entry and I was on the 'Success: journal entry was edited' page. I closed my browser (Maxthon 2.5.18) before leaving that page and when I reopened my browser again, the page was back to the open edit page. The new content was saved there, just, the page/box was open. Usually on Maxthon, it sends me here. This doesn't happen on Firefox.

This is the kind of issue I am honestly amazed I haven't seen before!

Poll error: lj-pq tags of type 'text' cannot have poll items in them.

Just that since the tag isn't actually lj-pq anymore, maybe that text ought to be updated. (A fiddly thing that totally doesn't matter and isn't even really an issue, but I thought you'd like to know anyway!)

I can't find an option to disable e-mail notifs when making a post! On the old Create Entry, there was the dropdown box that allowed a user to disable comment notifs, but there's nothing like that on the new page that I can find.

Haven't tried that part but I just used it to post from my iPhone and it's GREAT. It's almost full width so easy to see a lot of data, but enough margin to scroll well.

Site menus are another matter, but oh well.

New Create page doesn't like OpenID?

[personal profile] random_xtras 2012-10-17 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I've noticed something that I'm not sure if it's a wrong or what. But with the old create entries page I can edit my community entries that were imported from LJ with my OpenID. But with the new create entries page it won't let me do this anymore. Is this supposed to happen? If it is, how do I edit my imported entries?

This isn't a bug. I was all set to come and gripe (mildly) about the "full-width entry box," when I skimmed the comments here first. You can rearrange it? Configure it? OMG! WTH? User choice? What planet am I on? Not planet LJ, I know that much!

Awesome and very impressive, both in terms of features/usability AND in treating your users like they are actual people that matter. This may sound melodramatic, but after logging in to my account after ranting on LJ about LJ's latest idiocy, this almost made me cry, seriously. Thank you.

I am not using it for editing, but ... I just used the create entries beta to post an entry and noticed a weird new behavior (I *swear* I haven't seen it before, I last posted an entry March 1st so it has been a while).

When I typed a tag in, the tags box got taller and taller (vertically bigger, extending down off my visible space) as I typed each letter. The pick-list of tags got shorter with each letter as fewer matched, but it also started further down the screen as the box extended.

For example, in retesting, I start and it is about 1.5 or 2 characters high, counting "buffer" space above/below the cursor. I type a 't' and it becomes about 3-5 times that high. I type an e and it's even bigger. I select "technology positive" and it puts it in and goes back to being about as tall as it was at the beginning, plus one line for a new tag.

AHA! Just tried it again and ctrl-shift-tabbed to get back to where I am writing this comment - it appears to expand by about one line per keydown and key-up, including the ctrl, shift, alt, and even Windows keys. It sizes back down only when a tag is chosen - and if I accept the tag by tabbing, it adds a couple lines for that key after applying the tag.

It does not react to key activity as long as focus is not in that one box, and it does not react to mouse activity (so I can paste in text and the box does not grow).

This is in Chrome Version 25.0.1364.172 m - it looks like that's out of date, so I will hopefully try updating. However, it's now past my kids' bedtime, so that will be tomorrow at the earliest.

White box eats entry page in Safari 6

[personal profile] jesse_the_k 2013-05-13 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Had used the new comments entry for a couple months, worked but didn't thrill me, turned it off, turned it back on today.

Using Safari 6.0.4 (8536.29.13)/OS X 10.8.3 with a number of extensions. Which I've just turned off (not yet reboot) and it still happens.

The correct page draws. But the moment I move the cursor (not into a text area, just movement) an empty white rectangle overlaps almost all of the entry items (20 px visible on left and top side). On reload it shows the correct page, cursor twiddle, boom white rectangle. Doesn't show in Chrome or Firefox, so probably Safari related.

Problem is that I'm unwell and can't chase a bug right now. Just wanted to let you know; will track post; if i get saner enough to do troubleshooting, will report.

This only happens on my home computer. I am using Firefox 20.0.1.

The "Preview" button doesn't work at all. When I click on the "Spellcheck" button next to it, I get a preview of my post in a new tab.

The "Post" button works fine.

Is there anyway to add an option to switch between Rich Text Editor and HTML?

When I create entries on my journal I tend to use HTML (so I don't end up with borked coding as RTE is wont to do),and it's my default setting, but when cross-posting, I tend to like to copy what I'm cross-posting and past what I'm going to post in RTE as it's easier and quicker. But with the Beta comment page, there seems to be no option for that unless one goes into their account settings put RTE (or HTML if one is switching to that from RTE) as default and then back again. Or manually put in the HTML code if your default is HTML in order to crosspost.

I just think it would be easier to just be able to switch from one to the other from the comment pages itself.

Where should I make the comment that all those boxes are NEVER going to work for me (complete with an explanation as to why)?
